EDI-Link: Overview
The EDI-Link Suite of solutions offers a new way of thinking about the capture and distribution of information.

All businesses have the same issue. How best to receive, provide and share information with partners throughout the supply chain. As the amount of information required continues to rise, capturing and providing information is a growing cost and should be addressed as one.

Depending on the needs of the sender and the receiver of the information, EDI-Link works in two basic ways.

  1. The Automated Distribution of Forms and Reports

Sometimes, the best way of sharing information is by providing a "physical copy" of the form or report. But how? Unreliable faxes? Multiple email attachments?  Snail mail?

EDI-Link handles the distribution of forms and reports by consolidating the forms into a single PDF file and electronically transmitting the file to a user maintained list of email addresses.

  2. Prior to submitting the forms the user has the ability to add comments that will appear in the email being generated.

  3. The Automated Distribution of Data

  4. The real power of EDI-link lies in its ability to capture and distribute the actual data, transforming a report from a simple printed page or internal computer applications to a computer file of information. EDI-Link "maps" to a user's existing forms and files and "pulls" the data from them.

Once the data is captured, the distribution capabilities of EDI-Link are employed to automatically create and distribute both forms AND THE DATA to authorized parties in the method and file format that each requires. In addition, the data can be imported into internal systems and databases for in-house use.

During the process, the user has the ability to add data elements to be included the data file being distributed. These can include the Entry Number, PAPS or PARS number, Port of Arrival and internal document number.

    Through the use of
External Databases, associated information (i.e. Price, Tariff, Country of Origin, Producer, etc.) can be stored and automatically retrieved from the databases and included in the final shipment file(s). This prevents the source documents or files from having to include all required information. The accuracy of the data that is maintained in the external databases is the responsibility of the individual parties, including the Shipper, Importer of Record and/or the Customs Broker. EC Dynamics does not enter or provide the data.

The Print Driver generates the PDF file and automatically uploads the file to the EC Dynamics web server for form distribution and/or data capture and distribution.  The Print Driver is a download and appears in the users list of printers.  More detailed information is available by clicking Here.

The Connect option provides the user the ability to submit existing PDF files for processing on the EC Dynamics web server by:

      • Emailing the file to the server
      • Through a dedicated web upload page
      • Via FTP file transfer
      • Other methods as required by the user
More detailed information is available by clicking Here.

The Express option is designed for users who need to make revisions to the data elements prior to submitting the record to the EC Dynamics web server.  Examples include Back Order information on Shipping documents, Price information on quotations, Delivery times, etc..  More detailed information is available by clicking Here.

The manual data entry method is provided for customers that are unable to capture data from existing documents or computer applications.  Our approach differs from other data entry systems, as we focus on eliminating the need to enter the same information on multiple screens.  Rather that focusing on filling individual documents, our data capture screens are designed to capture information once, then generate the forms and data files afterwards, using the entered data.

Think Outside the Box
Access to information is not limited to EDI-Link pulling data from forms. Each company is different, with differing needs and abilities to provide information. Some can produce forms; others can generate computer readable files. Others have different methods. We work with each individual client to identify the sources of the information that is needed, with a goal of MINIMAL DISRUPTION IN DAY-TO-DAY OPERATIONS. It is our responsibility to build solutions that integrate into existing processes, not force companies to change to provide electronic data.
